To work with the Center as a post-doc...
Marketing Postdoctoral Fellow - Charlie Ebert
Charlie Ebert focuses on organizational ‘purpose,’ or firm-level social and environmental reasons a firm exists. His most recent work is the Policy & Practice for Purposeful Business Report, published in 2021, and Ebert is currently working on a paper in connection with the report that provides examples of how large, for-profit firms are pursuing organizational purposes effectively in today’s business environment. Ebert hopes that his research can encourage businesses to adopt and pursue organizational purposes by either elucidating the benefits of being purpose-driven or lifting the shroud around how firms can pursue social and environmental purposes in today’s profit-oriented system.
"The entire College of Business at CSU has strategically positioned itself around Business for a Better World. Not only is this right in line with my research, but I believe it has created a positive culture at work."

"The largest factor that drew me to the Center for Marketing and Social Impact was the research that is being performed. I still remember reviewing the topics of the publications of the Center’s members prior to my interview: consumer privacy and enjoyment, the impact of E-cigarette warning and calorie labels on consumption factors, the impact of the legalization of marijuana on youth, and health equity in indigenous communities. My mind raced with the possible research projects I could start when I had the opportunity to collaborate with researchers that pursued such incredible and important outcomes variables!
My research is focused on organizational purpose, which is a firm-level prioritization of social and environmental wellbeing outcomes. Therefore, my work is directly related to the important social impact outcomes studied here at the Center. The firms I’ve researched care deeply about the topics researched at the Center, and I am excited at the possibility of combining their desire to better the world with the insights my colleagues have derived regarding how to do just that.
I expected the Center for Marketing and Social Impact to be focused on improving the world through research, but I was very pleasantly surprised to find that the entire College of Business at CSU has strategically positioned itself around Business for a Better World. Not only is this right in line with my research, but I believe it has created a positive culture at work. Everyone has a reason to get up in the morning that is meaningful, driving them toward new insights and further progress in bettering the world we live in. I absolutely love that."
