Bio

As Vice President and Chief People Officer, Julie leads all aspects of Human Resources. (At Southwest Airlines, we call it the People Department). This includes hiring the right People at the right time with the right attitude, providing Employees with equal opportunity for learning and personal growth, providing competitive and attractive benefits packages, and assuring quality and depth of Leadership throughout the Company.

Julie has over 20 years of domestic and international Human Resources experience. Since joining Southwest Airlines in 2006, Julie has served in various leadership roles including Director of Employment, Senior Director of People, and Vice President of People. Under Julie’s leadership, Southwest Airlines was among the Disability Equality Index’s® Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion, ranked #2 on Indeed.com’s Top-Rated Workplaces in 2018, and is consistently among Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work. Prior to joining Southwest Airlines, Julie worked at MetaSolv Software (now an Oracle Company) as a Recruiter in 1996, and served as Vice President of Human Resources from 2000-2006. 

Julie is on the Board of Trustees for the University of Dallas and is a member of the Colorado State University College of Business Global Leadership Council. 

Julie earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Dallas, and a Masters in Counseling Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University.

Julie is married to John, and they have two dogs named Routt and Cam. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, camping, hiking, and just being outdoors.
