Open to all CSU College of Business majors and minors at the undergraduate level. Participants will be assigned to teams by the selection committee.

Build your confidence, develop your analytical and presentation skills and connect with local business leaders by participating in the 5th annual Discovery Case Challenge!

This case challenge, sponsored by Deloitte, is designed as an entry point for undergraduate Business majors and minors to gain experience in case competitions in a welcoming team environment. Discovery Case Challenge teams will analyze a real-life business scenario, strengthening their critical thinking, collaboration and presentation skills through the process.

This competition is open to all undergraduate business students at CSU. First- and second-year students and Business minors are strongly encouraged to apply. The first-place team will be awarded $5,000 and the second-place team will be awarded $3,000.

This year's case centers around a  large nonprofit organization, and the judging panel includes the leaders of several local nonprofit organizations.

The industry panel of judges for the 2025 Discovery Case Challenge includes (from left to right): Amy Pezzani, CEO of Foodbank for Larimer County, Tracy Mead, CEO of Project Self-Sufficiency of Loveland-Fort Collins, Diane Hathaway, CFO of United Way of Larimer County, Kristin Candella, CEO of Fort Collins Habitat for Humanity, and Judy Clahoun, CEO of NOCO Humane.

 

How to Enter

Applications for the Discovery Case Challenge, sponsored by Deloitte open on Sept. 24 and applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 12. The application requires a brief statement of interest and a 500-800 word response to the essay prompt, which can be found on the application form. 2025 Discovery Case Challenge Application

Applications must be submitted on an individual basis and there is no guarantee that students will be selected to move forward to team participation, however everyone is encouraged to apply. If selected to move forward to the team competition, participants will be assigned to teams by the selection committee. Timeline

  •  Sept. 24: Applications open

  • Oct. 20: Selected students confirm participation
  • Oct. 30: Participating teams are emailed case scenario
  • Nov. 13: Teams submit case presentations
  • Nov. 14: Teams present to case judging panel and winners are announced
