John Elstrott served as Whole Foods Market’s chairman of the board for over 20 years prior to the company’s sale to Amazon. He is the former executive director of the Levy-Rosenblum Institute for Entrepreneurship at Tulane University’s Freeman School of Business in New Orleans. Over 30 years at Tulane, Elstrott taught courses in entrepreneurship, conducted academic research and founded the Tulane Family Business Center, which focuses on improving the success of family-run businesses.

Elstrott holds bachelor and master’s degrees in economics from Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge and a doctorate in economics from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is also an active entrepreneur in the venture capital, wetlands mitigation banking, pharmaceutical, financial services, medical and functional food, and authentic herbal remedy industries.
