How to Change Your Major to Business Administration

If you meet the entrance requirements or anticipate meeting them by the end of this semester, you are invited to register for our Change of Major (COM) Event. This event provides an opportunity to officially change your major and receive academic advising from the College of Business (COB) Academic Advising Team. The event is held at the end of each academic term (fall, spring, summer) and is the only way to declare a business major.

What to Expect

The COM event is conducted virtually and consists of the following:

  1. Mandatory LIVE Virtual Presentation – This session provides essential information about transitioning to the Business Administration major.
  2. Individual Advising Sessions – A 15-minute appointment with a COB academic advisor. Sessions are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis based on when students register for the event.
  3. Session Notifications – Students will receive their scheduled advising session time via email one day before the live event.

How to Prepare

To ensure a smooth transition into the Business Administration major, we recommend:

  • Course Registration: Before the COM event, register for courses that are not restricted to Business Majors to maintain full-time student status (12+ credits). Recommended options include:
    • ECON 204, STAT 204
    • JTC300 or JTC301 (will fulfill the COB's Advanced Writing Requirement)
    • AUCC courses
    • Business minor courses
    • Other major/minor courses and electives
  • Know Your Information: Have your CSU ID number ready and determine your intended concentration (you must declare a concentration to finalize your major change).
  • Prepare Transcripts: If you have taken transfer courses that are not yet processed by CSU, have digital copies available.
  • Use Your University Email: All communications, including advising appointments, will be sent to your CSU email. You must use this email for your advising session.
  • Be On Time for the Virtual Presentation: Students who are not logged into the live presentation by 8:15 a.m. (MT) will have their scheduled advising session canceled and will not be able to change their major until after the next COM event.
  • Future Accounting Concentration Students: If you are planning to declare a concentration in Accounting, please contact the COB Advising Front Desk: undergradinfo@business.colostate.edu to inquire about early registration access into ACT210 or ACT220. Please note that the Accounting Concentration sequence takes at minimum 6 semesters from ACT210 through completion.
