CIS 563 Information Assurance and Security (3 credits)
Examine information assurance and security from an enterprise risk management perspective. Enterprise risk management provides a framework for identifying, evaluating, prioritizing, and mitigating IT-related risks based on the organization’s objectives, strategy, risk appetite, and culture. Information assurance is the practice of managing information-related risks to ensure that (only) authorized parties have access to the “right” information at the “right” time.
CIS 606 Information Systems Essentials (3 credits)
This course introduces students to programming/software development (using Python), data analytics (using Python), IT project management, and cybersecurity. It provides students with a basic understanding of these four critical information technology areas.
CIS 620 IT Communication Infrastructure (3 credits)
Prerequisite or co-requisite: Completion of, or simultaneous enrollment in CIS 606
CIS620 explores modern cloud computing, cloud cybersecurity, and scripting for IT communications infrastructure. Students learn how networks, operating systems, and wireless technologies support scalable cloud systems used in business environments. Through hands-on labs in Linux and Windows, students configure, troubleshoot, and secure systems while applying automation and scripting techniques. The course builds practical skills to evaluate trade-offs, design secure cloud architectures, and deploy reliable, networked solutions for real-world computing environments.
CIS 623 Cybersecurity (3 credits)
Prerequisite: Completion of CIS 620
Detailed examination of modern security topics, blending coverage of many of the domains of the CISSP with those of the CEH: Access Control, Network Security, Risk Management, Software Development Security, Cryptography, Architecture, Operations, Business Continuity, Legal/ Ethical issues, as well as attack, defense, and counter-measure mechanisms.
