About

Eric Rapley joined the Colorado State University faculty in 2016 and currently teaches the undergraduate auditing course. Previously, he taught introductory financial accounting, accounting professional skills, and the first intermediate accounting classes. Eric is a CPA and has both public and private accounting experience.

Eric attended Kansas State University for his undergraduate studies. That was followed by twelve years of corporate experience, which included external auditing for a Big 4 firm and serving as a corporate controller of a nonpublic company. For his graduate studies, Eric attended Oklahoma State University and earned M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in accounting.

Professor Rapley's research interests focus primarily on two aspects of financial accounting: financial statement auditing and financial reporting discretion. He is interested in auditor's risk assessments and the informativeness of audit reports. He is also interested in companies' use of discretion in their financial reporting. His research has been published in academic journals such as Accounting Horizons, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Journal of Accounting, Auditing, and Finance, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Information Systems, and the Journal of the American Taxation Association.
