For 14 years, Mike Mooney served as the executive vice president and chief financial officer for all the U.S. EMI Group commercial operations. In this role, Mooney oversaw finance, planning, systems, and business affairs. EMI is one of the four “majors” in the global music market along with Universal, Warner, and Sony.
Mooney was senior vice president of finance, North and South America, Allergan Pharmaceuticals, when recruited by EMI in 1994. He had been with Allergan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. for 12 years. Prior to pharmaceuticals, he worked for four years at Beckman Electronics, Inc. and was division controller when he was recruited by Allergan. Before Beckman he spent six years in the aerospace industry in market and financial analysis and contract negotiations, as a captain in the Air Force, followed by two years as a civilian at Nasco Engineering.
Mooney earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a concentration in marketing in 1971 (magna cum laude) at Colorado State University. Upon graduation he received a commission as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force through the CSU ROTC scholarship program. Mooney later earned his MBA in finance from the University of Utah, while he was an officer in the U.S. Air Force.
In retirement, Mooney actively oversees his real estate portfolio and other investments, does volunteer career/life counseling each week for individuals of all ages and backgrounds, and helps where needed in supporting both his undergrad business school at CSU, as well as his MBA alma mater, the University of Utah. Mooney has two talented grandchildren, Isabel and Caden, who amaze him and their parents, daily.
