Here in Fort Collins, there are few better ways to celebrate than with a beer. We took it one step further by creating our own commemorative brew.
To celebrate our 50th anniversary, the College of Business teamed up with Odell Brewing Company, CSU fermentation science students and Nielsen to create a special beer to commemorate the significant contributions by our students, faculty and staff to business in Colorado, around the world and, more importantly, in people’s lives.
College of Business and CSU students and alumni were invited to submit their ideas for a name, label design and story behind the name and design concept to adorn the bomber bottle, poster, coaster, glasses and T-shirt. Four design concepts were provided to Nielsen, the consumer insights company, for testing and to help determine the winning design.
After sitting down with Odell Brewing Co. founder Doug Odell, the group decided to only use ingredients produced in Colorado, including Fort Collins Troubadour malted barley, Colorado clover honey, Fort Collins sugar beets and Centennial and Cascade hops grown in CSU professor Bill Baurle’s lab. A product of the Odell pilot system, the beer was available for a limited time at the Odell Tap Room and the Ramskeller.
To celebrate this special occasion with a lasting memento, CSU’s College of Business partnered with Odell to produce wall art, posters, pint glasses and growlers that were sold by the CSU Bookstore both in store and online. Half of the net proceeds from sales of these items went toward funding student scholarships.
