Shawn Utecht, manager of employer relations in the College of Business at Colorado State University, is a Nationally Certified Counselor with a wide breadth of experience in career services. Previously, Utecht served as the manager of graduate and undergraduate career counseling in the college helping develop a differentiated student service delivery model and growing the staff from 1.5 to 8.5. In his CSU assignment, he brings a diverse background in industry, education and nonprofit work. Internationally, he has consulted on microfinance development projects in the Peace Corps in Cameroon in West Africa and taught English in South Korea. In the United States, he has worked as a community organizer, managing a homeless shelter, teaching at community college, and helping manage a restaurant. Utecht started in the field of career services at Heartland Community College in Normal, Ill. While there he ran an employment mentoring program and helped develop an employment preparation program for underserved students. Utecht has earned a Specialist in Education and a master’s degree in career counseling from Florida State University, Tallahassee, Fla., where he also worked as a career advisor developing innovative programs in group career counseling.
