Jennifer Vancil serves as a career counselor in the College of Business Career Management Center working with graduate and undergraduate students and as an instructor for several academic classes. Jennifer is the instructor for BUS 690A Career Management for the Online and On-campus Professional MBA Program, BUS 510 Career Assessment and Development and BUS 515 Career Management and Placement for the Early Career MBA Program, and BUS 100 Introduction to Business for College of Business Freshmen. Her career counseling work includes meeting one-on-one with students in person and by phone for career coaching. She recently completed training to become a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach and integrates Clifton Strengthsfinder into her classes and career work. Jennifer is also a certified Global Career Development Facilitator and a member of the National Career Development Association. She has been a conference presenter for the MBA Career Services Council and is trained in the interpretation of the CareerLeader assessment produced by Harvard Business School. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Colorado Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and went on to earn a Master of Education, Adult Education, in Curriculum and Instruction, from the University of Alaska Anchorage, graduating as a member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society. Her graduate research focused on studying and creating freshman seminar programs that increase the rate of college student retention and graduation. Jennifer has been with the Colorado State University College of Business since 2008. In addition to career counseling, her work has included working as the academic advisor for the Professional Online and On-campus MBA Programs, serving as the program liaison to MBA faculty, orientation planning, elective curriculum design, student communication and counseling, coaching students on probation, implementing “best practices” for online education, choosing online career development resources and mentoring new advisors. Prior to coming to CSU, Jennifer was a faculty member and academic advisor at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where she taught academic classes in study skills, learning strategies, and "Survival Skills for College Students" to freshmen, coordinated a statewide scholarship program for rural and urban Alaskan students, and served at the advising coordinator and for the Community and Technical College of UAA. Jennifer is also the owner of Vancil Consulting. She provides management consulting services to help teams work from strengths using Clifton Strengthsfinder and offers one-on-one career coaching to executives, new professionals, and career-changers. She is also an experienced grant writer whose projects have included managing a U.S. Department of Education grant for the State of Alaska Department of Corrections to help incarcerated individuals begin college education while in prison resulting in decreased rates of return to jail. Other work has included providing technical assistance to Native Alaskan tribes applying for federal community development and language preservation grants. Jennifer lives in Fort Collins with her two children where she is a dedicated sports mom and active in her community. She likes spending time in the mountains, hiking, skiing, traveling, hosting gatherings of friends and family, painting, singing, and enjoying live music.
