 Asad Aziz, Ph.D. Department of Management Originally from Pakistan, Asad is a lecturer with the Department of Management. Asad’s research examines the role of individual differences in entrepreneurial and collective decision making. Prior to joining academia, Asad worked in the global semiconductor industry for more than twenty years. Asad continues to be active in philanthropic initiatives in Pakistan that focus on improving the lives of indigent women and children through education and health care. Asad received his BSEE from Brigham Young University, his MBA from the University of Denver, and his Ph.D in management from the University of Colorado – Boulder.
Karen Barsch, J.D. Department of Management Karen has 22 years of experience representing entrepreneurs in a wide range of industries. Through 2008, she was a partner with the international law firm of Faegre & Benson, LLP. She has extensive experience in the formation and financing of start-up businesses, and has a current passion for socially responsible entrepreneurial ventures. Karen’s educational background includes a B.S. from Texas Christian University and a law degree from the University of Colorado School of Law. Karen has traveled extensively to all seven continents and most recently spent time in Tanzania working at a school for girls from pastoralist villages.
 Tom Dean, Ph.D. Department of Management Tom joins the GSSE faculty at Colorado State University as associate professor of strategy and entrepreneurship in the Department of Management. His research and teaching passions are at the intersection of entrepreneurship and sustainability, and the economic opportunities inherent in the transition to a sustainable economy. He previously taught at the University of Colorado, Boulder and the University of Tennessee where he created several programs and courses such as the Cleantech Venture Challenge business plan competition, Sustainable Opportunities Summit, Sustainable Venturing Initiative and one of the first environmental management programs. He is currently writing a textbook on sustainable venturing and pursuing further research on the topic. Tom has consulted with a number of organizations on strategic and environmental issues and opportunities, and worked with Universities in Eastern Europe and Asia to develop environmental management and energy programs.  Dan Ganster, Ph.D. Department of Management Dan is the Richard and Lorie Allen Professor of Business Administration and Chair of the Department of Management. He joined the faculty of CSU in June 2009, and previously was on the faculty of the University of Arkansas and the University of Nebraska. Dan earned his undergraduate degree at Wabash College in Psychology and his master’s and Ph.D. at the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University. His research broadly concerns the impact of work life experiences on the mental and physical well being of organizational members. Dan believes that sustaining human resources by understanding how organizational actions affect the mental and physical health of employees is a neglected area of sustainability efforts. His goal is to help organizations become both more productive and supportive of worker health and well being. He is on the editorial review boards of the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, the Journal of Applied Psychology, and the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology. He previously served on the boards of the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Stress and Health. Dan also served as a member of the Behavioral Sciences Research Review Committee for the National Institute of Mental Health. His research has been supported by grants from the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and Dillard’s, Inc. He co-edits the series Research in Occupational Stress and Well Being, whose eighth volume came out in 2010. In 2006 he was elected to membership in the Society for Organizational Behavior. Carl Hammerdorfer GSSE Program Director An entrepreneur with twenty years of experience internationally and domestically, Carl has worked both at the grass-roots level as a Peace Corps volunteer and as country director for ACDI/VOCA and Peace Corps. He has extensive experience forming and launching cooperatives domestically and internationally, and co-founded America’s first co-op incubator, Mainstreet Cooperative Group. His current passion is in developing and applying enterprise solutions that produce triple bottom-line results in base of pyramid markets. Fluent in German, French and Bulgarian and conversant in Bambara and Polish, Carl holds an MBA from Colorado State University.
Sue Hine, Ph.D. Department of Finance and Real Estate Sue is a lecturer in the department of finance and real estate at the College of Business. Her teaching focuses on investments—both equity and debt securities. Her research has been in the area of cooperative business analysis. Sue is also the executive director of the Colorado Cooperative Council, a member of the Board of Directors of Mountain Plains Farm Credit Services, vice-chair of the Larimer County Pension Fund and trustee of the Colorado Diversified Trust Fund. Prior to her university work, Sue operated a western wear/feed store in Colorado, as well as a horse sale consignment company. Additionally, Sue was vice president of financial services at a large Colorado bank holding company and had a three-year stint teaching high school English and French. [ more]
Paul Hudnut, J.D. Department of Management Paul is an entrepreneur, advisor and teacher. He is an instructor of the Department of Management. Paul’s educational background includes a BA from Colorado College, a law degree from the University of Virginia, and completion of the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School. He co-founded Envirofit International, a company that develops and commercializes environmentally friendly technologies for Base Of Pryamid markets. As a board member, Paul advises Envirofit, New Belgium Brewing Co and Inviragen. He teaches entrepreneurship at Colorado State University, Bainbridge Graduate Institute and Bordeaux Business School. Paul teaches the Global Social and Sustainable Entrepreneurship course and mentors student teams. [ more]
Margarita Maria Lenk, Ph.D. Department of Accounting Margarita is an associate professor for the Department of Accounting in the College of Business. She is very active in the field of service learning in Argentina (her native country), Japan, and the United States. Lenk has been published numerous times, and has received many significant awards. Most notably, she has repeatedly been a finalist for the Thomas Ehrlich Award, the top Service-Learning award for faculty in the USA. Over the past 15 years, she has developed and taught ten different service-learning courses at Colorado State University at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Ken Manning, Ph.D. Department of Marketing
Ken is the Chair of the Department of Marketing, Professor of Marketing, and FirstBank Research Fellow at Colorado State University. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina in 1994, and prior to joining CSU was a faculty member at Gonzaga University. Ken has led efforts in developing sustainability-related research and teaching programs at CSU and has been involved with the GSSE program since its inception. He has taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate marketing courses and currently specializes in teaching the GSSE course titled “Marketing for Social Sustainable Enterprises.” Ken conducts research in the areas of pricing, social influence, and public policy. Some of Ken’s current research projects focus on price communication between consumers, resale price maintenance, cigarette package claims, and the link between overweight stereotypes and food consumption among children. Ken’s research has been published in numerous journals including the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Advertising, and Journal of Public Policy & Marketing. M. Travis Maynard, Ph.D. Department of Management Travis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management at Colorado State University. He received his Ph.D. degree in Organizational Behavior at the University of Connecticut. He holds an undergraduate degree in Accounting from the College of William and Mary, and an MBA degree in Organizational Behavior from the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. His research interests include the role that team contextual variables have on team processes and the development of team psychological states. Recent research endeavors have focused on the effects of shared team experience and familiarity on project team effectiveness. His research has been published in the Journal of Management, the Journal of Organizational Behavior, and Human Performance. In addition to his class on teamwork for the GSSE program, Dr. Maynard teaches an undergraduate course “Leading High Performance Teams.”
Ken Petersen, Ph.D. Department of Management Ken is an associate professor and the First Community Bank Faculty Fellow at Colorado State University and visiting senior fellow at Manchester Business School in Manchester, England. Before joining Colorado State University, he was on the faculty at Arizona State University and the University of Oregon. He has authored over 50 articles, reports and book chapters and has consulted with numerous firms in strategic sourcing and supply management. Petersen currently conducts research and teaches in the graduate, honors undergraduate and undergraduate programs in the areas of supply chain management and sustainability. [ more]
Joni Teter Joni is a long time entrepreneur in one of the largest bureaucracies in the world - the U.S. government. Her passion is helping people see the interconnections among activities and systems impacting the human and natural worlds and finding opportunities for positive social change at those intersections. Her current job focuses around integrating high performance building standards with environmental management system operations. Joni has 25 years of experience in the fields of environmental law and policy, integrated environmental management, and urban growth and land use. Past work has included tours of duty at Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks and environmental auditing support to the Malaysia Department of Environment. Joni has traveled extensively and recently spent a year in Egypt on a Fulbright Grant exploring sustainable tourism.
Rick Turley, Ph.D. Department of Computer Information Systems Rick is an instructor with the Department of Computer Information Systems in the College of Business. He also teaches as an executive professor at the Monfort College of Business (MCB) at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). Turley recently earned the Professor of the Year award from students as well as the MCB Instructor of the Year from faculty and UNC. Turley joined the MCB after 25 years in management and executive positions with Hewlett-Packard and Colorado Memory Systems. Dr. Turley currently maintains an active consulting practice in engineering management and technology assessment. He holds bachelor degrees from Case Western Reserve University and Stanford University, and a Master’s and Doctoral degree in Computer Science from Colorado State University. [ more]
Diana Wall, Ph.D. Department of Biology, School of Global Environmental Sustainability Diana is a professor of biology and a senior research scientist at CSU. Diana actively explores how life in soil contributes to healthy and productive soils and also examines the consequences of human activities on soil globally. Her research extends from agro-ecosystems to 17 seasons in Antarctica examining how global changes impact soil and the ecosystem. Diana is involved in many international activities such as co-chairing the Millennium Development Goals Committee of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment. She served as President of the Ecological Society of America, Director of the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory and Associate Dean of the College of Natural Resources at CSU. She holds an Honorary Doctorate from Utrecht University, The Netherlands and received a B.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Kentucky, Lexington. [more]
