The field of finance and real estate is concerned with the allocation and acquisition of capital by businesses, governments and individuals. Nearly every business decision carries risks and rewards, and determining the value proposition of these decisions is a central activity in finance. In recent years the confluence of two dominant trends – globalization of markets and proliferation of financial instruments – has fuelled the value of finance as a globally recognized profession. Therefore, whether you are interested in personal finance or real estate, investments or retirement planning, social entrepreneurship or sustainable growth, you will be able to build a curriculum that fits your academic goals and career ambitions in the Department of Finance and Real Estate.
We offer the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with your choice of concentration in Finance or Real Estate. The Finance concentration offers three options: Corporate Finance, Investments and Financial Planning. The Real Estate concentration covers the development, financing, management and marketing of residential and commercial real estate.
Undergraduate
Finance Concentration
In the Corporate Finance option, you are prepared to identify and make decisions in financial planning, financial control and financial analysis, and enterprise valuation. The study of financial institutions and markets will help develop your understanding of strategy and policy. If you choose this option, you’ll also study the key internal aspects of firms as well as their responses to changing conditions in money and capital markets.
The Investments option focuses your studies on modern investment theory applications to debt and equity markets, portfolio management, and derivatives. Select students have the opportunity to participate in the Summit Fund, which is a student managed investment fund. Investment professionals find opportunities in all areas of the globe due to the expanding ability to invest from anywhere via electronic markets.
The Financial Planning option will meet the educational requirement to sit for the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) exam. Our program, certified by the CFP® Board, prepares you to handle client needs in retirement planning, estate planning, risk and insurance management, investing and tax planning. Financial planners are in great demand as individuals increasingly seek to control their own investment and retirement situations.
Real Estate Concentration
The Real Estate Concentration helps you learn and understand the development, financing, management, and marketing of land resources. You’ll also learn how these resources are used by developers and real estate financiers. College graduates are in high demand for professional services in property development, brokerage, appraisal, property management, mortgage lending, and teaching and research in real-estate-related areas.
