Welcome to the Department of Finance & Real Estate within the College of Business!
If you are interested in finance or real estate, you have come to the right place. We offer numerous innovative programs, and are committed to the success of our graduates. Our students learn in the midst of state of the art facilities including the Gary B. Halley financial lab with 30 workstations, 16 Bloomberg® terminals, and sophisticated analysis software. We provide opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students to participate in student-managed investment funds (Summit, Pioneer and Veterans). These funds offer experiential learning while enhancing our mandate for social responsibility. For example, resources from the Veterans and Pioneer funds generate scholarships for veterans and first generation college students, respectively. Our department also benefits from generous resources available through the Everitt Real Estate Center, which supports student-faculty collaborations and the real estate community of Northern Colorado.
Our curriculum stresses rigorous, high quality education. We maintain Recognized University status with the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation and are Board Registered with the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation. Students in our Master's program develop advanced skills in portfolio management, financial management and risk management. Undergraduates will find many interesting choices, with a Finance concentration that offers investments and corporate finance options and a Real Estate concentration.
Critical to the continued growth and reputation of our department is our pursuit of meaningful research, excellence in teaching, and significant connections between faculty, students, alumni, and business partners. Faculty have published their research in many top finance and business journals, such as the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of Risk and Insurance, Management Science, Operations Research, and Strategic Management Journal. A focus on new ideas allows our enthusiastic, caring, and rigorous faculty to advance classroom learning and prepare our students for rewarding careers.
We welcome you to explore the Department of Finance & Real Estate. As a potential student or contributor, we have many innovative offerings and exciting initiatives for you to discover. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or would like more information.
