Position Description
The Managing Director position is responsible for day-to-day management of the Institute for Entrepreneurship including overall program management, student engagement and oversight of student ventures, management of the physical location, assistance to entrepreneurship faculty in the achievement of the program’s teaching and research goals, marketing and public relations, and assistance in capital campaigns.  

  
Qualifications
Required qualifications include an earned bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution as well as a minimum five-year record of success, leadership, and administration in an entrepreneurial environment, such as new venture creation, business development, venture investing, or corporate entrepreneurship.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • An ability to simultaneously manage multiple objectives
  • Evidence of a strong work ethic, high level of energy, and the ability to manage complex tasks with minimal direction
  • Strong organizational, project planning, and administrative capabilities
  • A demonstrated understanding of the academic context and ability to engage faculty and administration across the university environment
  • An advanced degree in a relevant discipline
  • A proven ability to work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders 
  • Effective written, oral, and interpersonal skills
  • Prior experience in  leadership, administration or teaching within an entrepreneurship center or similar business development program
  • Experience in fundraising, public relations, sales, or marketing


Department
The Institute for Entrepreneurship is positioned within the Management Department in the College of Business (COB).  One of five departments in the COB, the Department of Management consists of 16 tenured/tenure-track faculty members (four entrepreneurship tenured faculty).  The department has three areas of strategic focus including entrepreneurship and innovation, supply chain management, and leadership/organizational behavior.  The department serves approximately 400 undergraduate students in the concentration, as well as 70 on-campus and 350 off-campus M.B.A candidates.  The M.B.A is offered via a part-time evening program and via a nationally-acclaimed distance program.  Colorado State University continually ranks as one of the country’s best institutions for undergraduate education (Princeton Review, Forbes Top 100 Best Buy Colleges, Forbes American’s Top Colleges, Diverse Issues in Higher Education, Kiplinger’s, U.S. News and World Report, etc.) and provides a high-quality educational and research environment.  In 2010, the National Science Foundation ranked CSU as one of the nation’s top 50 research institutions (2nd among public research universities without a medical school and 1st on per-faculty basis).
