This 30-credit Master of Science in Business Administration with a specialization in Computer Information Systems (MSBA-CIS) is designed for people without undergraduate degrees in CIS or is equally challenging to those with a technology background. The program can be completed in one calendar year or taken on a part-time schedule flexing up to 5 years for completion.

Each student entering the MSBA-CIS program may choose either the thesis option (Plan A) or the project option (Plan B). The choice is determined by the student’s interests and strengths/weaknesses in the area of non-academic experience. Plan B gives the student a hands-on project providing the student with the applicable experience in an area of his or her interest. Plan A is recommended for students who may want to pursue additional graduate work. However, either option can be taken by a student and is their choice.

The following is the suggested course sequence that students should follow to graduate in one year. This will entail 40-50 hours of work per week outside of class, on average. This degree can also be completed in a flexible format taking up to 5 years.

The MSBA-CIS program may be completed in a flexible format taking up to 5 years. Course flow is similar to above, with 600-610 courses being completed before 611-665 courses. As with the full-time program, part time students must either complete a Plan A research thesis (CIS-699) or a Plan B project (CIS 695 or CIS 696).

To fulfill their graduation requirements, students are required to complete one of two project paths: a traditional research project and thesis (Plan A), or an applied project for an outside client (Plan B). While either path is open to all students, consideration of future academic goals may be a deciding factor in choosing the appropriate path of study.

Plan A
The traditional research thesis, or Plan A, path is ideal for students who have an interest in pursuing additional graduate studies after completion of the MSBA-CIS program. Participants select an area of interest and, under the guidance of a faculty advisor, craft and carry out an intensive research project culminating in the composition and defense of a formal thesis.

Plan B
Plan B students work individually or in groups to apply concepts, techniques, and tools learned in the course of their studies to analyze, design, and implement a computer information systems project for an outside client. Graduation requirements include the completion of the client project as well as the presentation and defense of an in-depth project report.
