An education in accounting provides an opportunity
for a variety of careers in the field of business management as well as
in one of the many specialized fields within the accounting profession.
Most of our graduates have chosen to pursue careers in public
accounting, industry, or government.
Public accounting companies provide audit, tax, and management advisory
services to firms and individual clients. They normally hire graduates
who are qualified and interested in practicing accounting as Certified
Public Accountants. Industry provides entry or midmanagement-level
positions in accounting which may lead to senior positions such as
controller, treasurer, or financial vice president.
Government at all levels (federal, state, and local) is a large employer
of accountants. At the federal level, accountants may find employment
with such agencies as the Government Accounting Office, Internal Revenue
Service, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Securities and Exchange
Commission, and others.
