The national Uniform CPA Exam requires a breadth of knowledge. Our AACSB-accredited Master of Accountancy program teaches you what you need to sit for – and pass – this exam. Our students’ CPA exam first-time pass rate of 60 percent exceeds both state and national rates.
After completing our Master of Accountancy program, you’ll be ready to secure a competitive accounting or management position in myriad industries. In a 2020 study conducted by U.S. News and World Report, 45 percent of employers plan on hiring Master of Accountancy graduates in the coming year. In addition to general accountancy, our Master of Accountancy offers specializations in taxation; data analytics and systems; and financial analysis, auditing, and reporting.

The Department of Accounting at the College of Business is well known for its productivity in tax accounting research. Our department is ranked 8th in tax research, in the top 10% in overall research breadth worldwide, and in the top 12% worldwide for overall research productivity by the BYU Accounting Research Rankings.
Our graduate students and faculty work closely together to solve complex business problems in areas like auditing, ethics, financial accounting and reporting and more. In addition to faculty, you’ll work with corporate, public, and non-profit accounting partners to develop solutions for the real-world challenges they face. Mentor programs, guest speakers and connections with our advisory board all add to the curriculum and serve as excellent networking opportunities.

As a College of Business graduate student, you’ll have access to a variety of educational resources, including LinkedIn Learning. This online platform, valued between $240 to $360 annually, hosts more than 18,000 courses in areas like business, technology and creative fields. With LinkedIn Learning, you can complete courses, update your profile with new credentials and demonstrate your proficiency in accounting.
STEM designation
The Master of Accountancy program meets the federal definition of a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program as it emphasizes technical skills combined with options for scientific coursework.
Benefits for international students
International Master of Accountancy students can apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) that allows them to work for 12 months in the United States after completing the degree program. The STEM designation of the Master of Accountancy program makes students eligible for an additional 24-month OPT extension. With up to 36 months more time to work and network in the U.S., international students can build a valuable set of professional skills and contacts that can help them with their career endeavors.
